I shouldn’t get into a head-on collision with a Ford F-150. It won’t end well for me.

I strongly believe that no modern vehicle is designed to survive even a minimal impact without breaking $3k in plastic parts.

Had to replace the rear bumper on my BRZ after someone rear-ended me at ~5 mph because it cracked the plastic bumper. ~$600 for the replacement.

I was rear-ended in the Saab 900 by a Ford F-150. I was amazed that it hit the bumper and not the hatch. The newer ones seem to have been designed not to go up and over a smaller car.

Had it been lifted, though....

Does the NHSTA or IIHS do any vehicle to vehicle collision testing? Or is it only with walls? It would be interesting to see something like a Lotus Evora head on crash with an F-350.

Had a golf ball sized dent in the corner of our Mazda5 below the tail light and a scuffed bumper because someone was impatient at WalMart.... $2000 repair.

oh ouch. WTF good is a bumper that cannot survive a 5mph impact?

Some times when following bro trucks I can’t help but think that the first point of impact would be their differential hitting my windshield.

Short answer, yes they do.

If it wasn’t for the guys license plate mount/frame it would have been fine, but it put all the pressure on about 2 square inches right where the bumper cracked.

I was thinking about this just yesterday. From the seat of my WRX, I could see the car on the other side of the bro truck stopped next to me. His bumper was close to the top of my windshield.

All things considered you should be okay these days.

It should be crash bar vs crash bar.

The front of my car is a couple inches lower than stock.

About two weeks after I got my M3, I slammed it into the back wall in my garage when I was parking. I cracked some 2x4s with the back bumper, amazingly there wasn’t a scratch on the car. If you look in the right light you can see a faint line where the bumper deformed a little from the impact, but it’s so faint it’s not worth mentioning. I’m pretty sure I’m the only one that’s ever noticed it.

I don’t. I’m always 3+ seconds behind the car in front. It’s just you are following them and you have to look up to see their bumper.

I’m keenly aware of the height disparity between vehicles these days. This is one of the reasons that if I ever were to find a low mileage 88-91 CRX I’d be afraid to drive it. It would be a snack for a lot of vehicles these days.

Side note, on my morning commute I often see one or two roll-off dumpster trucks that scare the crap out of me. There’s no Mansfield bar at all and the first thing one would hit would be the windshield with the bottom of the roll-off, or a lowered car would drive under until it smacked the rear axle.

That’s a risk you take when you lower a car

Owner of lowered car: “My looks so cool now and it corners better too!”

Owner of lifted truck: “My truck looks so cool now and it drives over shit better too!”

(Yes I know the F-150 pictured in front of my car is stock.)
